Medallic sculpture course at The University of the Arts
Introduction to Medallic Sculpture
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT THE NEXT TIME YOU GET SMALL CHANGE. People usually
think of sculpture as something larger than our subject, but medal-making,
like other sculpture, is three-dimensional, tactile and dependent upon
the creativity and technical proficiency of the artist, who must be trained
in both bas and high relief. In this course, you'll learn step by step about
simple uniface bas reliefs in plasticine clay, the use of rubber molds and
casting and chasing wax-as well as how to deal with foundries and seek
opportunities to exhibit your product. The course includes a brief history
of contemporary medal art.
